Movie night at Unity!
Best of Enemies
Saturday, August 24, 6pm
The movie stars Academy award winner Sam Rockwell and Taraji P. Henson. It is the true story of the unlikely relationship between Ann Atwater, an outspoken civil rights activist, and C.P. Ellis, a local Ku Klux Klan leader. During the racially charged summer of 1971, Atwater and Ellis come together to co-chair a community summit on the desegregation of schools in Durham, N.C. The ensuing debate and battle soon lead to surprising revelations that change both of their lives forever and demonstrate the power of shared humanity and love over prejudice and separation.

You become aware of your choices and move more into wholeness. In a group setting we open the records of all in attendance and, depending on the size of the group, most everyone has the opportunity to ask questions. Inevitably the answers that come forth offer guidance to all in the room. Fee: $30

If you have ever loved Unity of Birmingham, whether you are a long-term member or newbie, we urge you to partake in a great step in helping our beloved spiritual home bloom into even more of the joyous magnificence God wants this congregation to be!
As you know, our church is in great transition and has been for quite some time. In order to move forward in welcoming a new minister, we must go through a transitional workshop with Unity Worldwide Ministries. Reverend Beth, a Transitional Ministry Consultant, will be here THIS SATURDAY for the workshop: Healing Our Past: Creating Our Future!
HOPCOF invites you to:
Engage in safe & open dialogue to share your story of ministry
Release "old" energy - shift old patterns
Engage possibility & discovery
Support new knowledge
Invite community growth
Fuel new creativity
Renew the “thrill” that Unity principles invoke in us
We ask you to be part of this process! We value your input -- we each have our roles to play as we continue our community transitional process toward healthy spiritual relationships among ourselves and with a new minister.
The HOPCOF process brings our entire church community together to share our stories, and to begin to see the ways we have created identity, continuity, meaning and purpose as we orient ourselves to present circumstances and future possibilities. The process supports each of us in becoming aware of how our story has been compelling, limiting, wounding--or freeing. By understanding our story as the rich framework for our life orientation, our community will discover how we are greater than our story. Please join us in creating the wondrous place we know Unity of Birmingham to be!

Palm Sunday Service, April 14, 11am
— Speaker Rev. Brenda Durham
"Paving the Way"
As Jesus entered Jerusalem on a colt, the crowds laid their coats and palm branches on the ground for him. Palm Sunday is a celebration of the journey we take toward becoming the I AM that we are. Palms represent unlimited resources of strength. The road is long and painful at times, but as we continue to let go of our ego thoughts and pull from our Divine Power of strength, we move toward Jerusalem, the dwelling place of peace.
Maundy Thursday, April 18, 6:30pm—7:30pm
—-Speaker Rev. Brenda Durham
We will gather as a community and partake of Communion of Spirit and Sustenance.
What do we mean by the body and blood of Jesus Christ? The body is spiritual flesh or substance made permanent by the word of God that Jesus spoke. His blood is Spirit life, the quickening element in creation. Both are of the universal essence or substance, which cannot be destroyed.*
We will then (symbolically) walk to the Garden of Gethsemane.
Why did Jesus take His disciples with Him to Gethsemane? In time of distress or agony we turn instinctively to prayer for help. That Jesus brought all His faculties (disciples ) with Him in this experience shows that we can meet our testings successfully only as we apply all our powers to each as it arises.*
Good Friday, Meditation, April 19, 12pm to 1pm
Evelyn McDonald will facilitate a special Good Friday meditation/service commemorating the day of crucifixion of the error thoughts and behaviors that no longer serve us.
