On Sunday, June 14th, Charles Holt shared an inspiring message of healing,
Hi, my name is Charles Holt and I am the founder and director of The Open Frames Project - an innovative technology and curriculum that facilitates emotional literacy and learning. For the past decade I have lead workshops, retreats, and dialogue discussion groups with youth and adults around the country, with the intention of creating a space for each individual to grasp a better understanding of their emotional landscape while learning pathways in navigating emotional trauma, pain, and upset. From January 2017 through March 2018, I had the distinct honor of serving as a consultant in the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools. As mentor to 3rd and 4th graders, my task of implementing my curriculum as an initial ‘pilot’ program resulted in my work being extended for nearly two years. During that time, there were recordings of nearly a 68% decrease in the number of escalated trauma-informed encounters within the classroom and school. I used Mindfulness, one of the program’s four platforms, in highlighting the benefits of fundamental principles such as Order, Balance, Power, Respect, Listening, Kindness, Excellence, and Compassion.
The Open Frames program curriculum continues to expand to diverse groups and organizations such as HIV/Aids support center, initiatives for women, and areas of administration within areas of academics and education.
In addition to my work with emotional learning, I am a Broadway actor, inspirational speaker, mentor, and author.
I have addressed organizations such as: TED, American Heart Association, National Conference on Race and Ethnicity, Rikers Island Correctional Facility, Facing History and Ourselves, Nashville Cares – an HIV/AIDS Support Center, and numerous colleges, universities and churches. I have starred in some of the most celebrated and spectacular shows in American Theatre history: Smokey Joe’s Café, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and Disney’s Lion King. My experience on stage gives me the unique opportunity of integrating performance art into The Open Frames curriculum – a merge that fosters student retention, an expansion and broadening of the lens of emotional perspective and healing, while also creating an opportunity for healthy relationships, and a fulfilling life course.
I actively teach and facilitate emotional literacy programs, empowerment workshops, forgiveness retreats, and creative writing seminars.
