Unity of Birmingham Spiritual Writer's Club Series:
By Jacob Gross

Make me like water–
Fluid and everchanging;
Giving and abundant.
Help me meet the stranger in the desert,
The naiad in the sea.
Help me flow into peoples’ arms, a gift in mystery.
Make me the scalding sprinkle
In the shower–
Comforting and compassionate,
Aiding life to go on.
Make me the shock of a cold plunge–
Refining and rebuilding,
Getting in the tissue, making
Athletes into monks.
Let me be–
The drink after a long run
Let me be–
The new well in a village.
Let me be–
Tied to the moon and ancient
Mysteries
And finally let me be–
Able to meet
People where they’re at,
Hear their pleas
And cacophonies,
So that I may be
Liberated
And set
Free.
